Hello newDAY, I know this blog is a long time in coming, but it’s been the worst months of my life and also the time I have experienced the love, compassion, care and concern of this amazing church family most personally.

On a personal note, the last two years have been exceptionally tough on us as a family, and obviously on Hencia the most. It was a journey with many lows, punctuated with a few highs. I know that we as a family will always carry Hencia’s loss, but I also know the goodness of God upon us…

We are so thankful to you as a church for how you have rallied around us in so many ways. You have literally carried us in ways you may not even understand! Thank you!

As I look ahead I am filled with an excitement for what God is doing, and continues to do with us as a church.

I have obviously been very focused at home for a long season – and my boys will still need a lot of my attention going forward – but I’m filled with hope and anticipation for our church future.

Firstly, I firmly believe that prayer is the engine room of the church, and so we have made the adjustment to turn our Thursday evening gathering into a time of praying together as a church. Attendance has been encouraging so far with our first three weeks seeing 98, 95, and 120 people gathering to seek and worship the Lord together. This is a time to align ourselves with God’s purposes for our church together, to find His heart and will, and to do what He says.

Secondly, whenever a person becomes a Christian it is God’s intention that they are placed into community – what He calls “the body of Christ.” This community should help shape the new believer into a genuine Christ follower. True community can be an exhilarating, rewarding and adventure-filled journey, or it can be an absolute disaster.

It all depends on a few critical factors ie. Is the Spirit of God truly dwelling in that person, with the resulting fruit? Is that person experiencing sufficient healing (if they need it) so that they’re not harmful to others in a trusting environment? Is that person willing to learn, to grow, and to exercise their spiritual gifts for the sake of others? And we could continue…

To preface the series on community I want to start soon I am busy with a miniseries on being God’s image bearers. I’m trying to say that only as we understand what God’s plan for us is, and what He’s forming in us, will we be able to engage in true community as the light of the world and the salt of the earth…

The world is meant to know that we’re the disciples of Jesus by the love we have for each other – and that love is experienced! It’s God’s own kind of love that we first experience, and then share from the overflow of our own hearts. As each person becomes a Christian, and properly joins the Christian community, the darkness and chaos is pushed back and the kingdom of God grows!

We’ll keep looking to the Lord together, and pursuing His will…
All my love, Greig
